The tradition of hospitality in Cortina
The welcome and the hospitality they extend are firmly rooted in the mentality of the people who live in the Ampezzo Valley.
Nowadays, there are 59 hotels in Cortina and they are part of the century old local tradition of hospitality of which everyone is proud.
At the beginning of last Century Cortina could boast a number of Hotels: from the Hotel de la Poste, dating back from 1802, always run by the Manaigo family, the Ancora, the Aquila Nera, the Croce Bianca, the Stella d’Oro, and the Victoria. With other smaller hotels there was a total of 500 beds.
After the Great War, Cortina became a centre for all the people that wished to strengthen their constitution in the green and pleasant atmosphere of the Dolomite mountains.
In 1956 Cortina has been host to the Olympic Winter Games. Some new hotels were built and also new sport facilities such as the famous Olympic Stadium. The family unit of management became more entrepreneurial, but the courtesy remained the same as usual.
Cortina has never ceased charming its visitors, whether they be abitués or just passing through. It is all thanks to the thread that links the town to its history, and the town’s profound faith in its own true nature: hospitable, wholesome and pleasing.
