THE CORTINA WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP HAS BEEN OFFICIALLY PRESENTED
In the course of a meeting in Sedico has been officially presented the world championship event according to which the best archers, both juniores and seniores, of the "H & F" Archery will gather in Cortina. Luciano Trevisson, chairman of the Organizing Committee, and Luigi Alverà of the G.I.S. (Sports Facilities Management) in Cortina have explained the main features of the World Championship. "That is another acknowledgement of the excellent organizing skills of Cortina - Trevisson has pointed out - and of the technical skills of the archery of the province of Belluno, in particular of the Compagnia Arcieri of the Piave - Dolomiti Rocce. That is confirmed by the fact that in Jakarta the World Federation has not only asked the Organizer to set up the Senior World Championship but also the Junior one". "Cortina - said Alverà - has warmly asked for this new challenge. On the other hand, the people from Cortina are always ready to face new challenges. That is why there has been and there is now a common aim to make this event, taking place in the Cortina valley, something to be remembered by all the participants." Therefore an engagement that, to be fulfilled, will require a large amount of men and financial resources; the Veneto Region has guaranteed its support.
ARCHERY & PHILATELY
The next World Championship "H & F" will make its mark in history not only from a sports point of view. For the first time, in fact, the administration of the Poste Italiane will issue a stamp dedicated to Archery. The Organizing Committee had the initiative and with the cooperation of Fitarco (the Italian Arching Federation) and of Coni, has suggested this opportunity. Therefore, after the unforgettable edition of the Olympic Games in 1956, Cortina is once again the protagonist in the fascinating world of philately too. That is another reason for not losing the world championship event.
MAGIC
If the "H & F" speciality represents the most straightforward way to enjoy unforgettable experiences, surrounded by a beautiful natural environment, the World Championships - both junior and senior - in Cortina d'Ampezzo will add something more to it: the magic of the "Pale Mountains". In which other way to describe, in fact, the sensations grabbing the hearts of the visitors who coming up from the plain experience the magnificence of the Tofane, Cristallo and Faloria peaks; the colours of the woods and of the meadows; the fresh smell of the air; the murmuring of the brooks that makes an interesting counterpoint to that of the animals? Magic, simple magic that fills up your soul and nourishes profound and long-lasting feelings.
FIELD ARCHERY
From a technical point of view, in the field archery contest the archers are required to display all their skills at the utmost level. In fact, it is not enough to possess technical basic skills (emotional balance, power of concentration, overall control of the bow): you have to be perfectly fit. Moving along the courses requires, in fact, a specific training. Not to mention the fact that you don't know how distant half of the targets are. Of course, the latest technology has provided very sophisticated instruments, but at the end of the day, is always the archer who has to decide. That is why the final result is never deceiving.
20 TEAMS WITH NEARLY 200 ATHLETES WILL COMPETE IN THE 17TH "ARCO 2000" WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP
THE JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIP, INSTEAD, HAS BEEN CANCELLED
A real "parterre du roi". There is no other way to describe the formation of archers who will compete for the world title, Field discipline. Nearly 200 competitors, from 20 Nations have already confirmed their attendance. As usually, Cortina has summoned up its extraordinary organising skills and the international meeting will be one of great technical value. The Junior Championship, instead, will not take place. Fita's rules and regulation on the matter are extremely strict in case of world events. A World Championship requires the attendance of 6 Nations at least and 12 competitors for each of the existing disciplines (bare bow, Olympic, and compound bow). Cortina had been awarded the junior competition (this being an autonomous choice by the FITA made during a meeting of the Executive Board) and had undertaken the new commitment with enthusiasm. However, the concomitance of the Olympic event has compelled many Federations to make a choice – surely a painful one. Therefore the FITA, taking note of the situation, has decided to cancel the junior competition.
In any case – says G.I.S. President, Mr Luigi Alverà – we wish to thank the 5 Nations which were going to send the junior teams as well. In addition, we wish to address our warmest and hearty welcome to all those – athletes, officials, and enthusiasts – who are coming to Cortina. The "Pearl of the Dolomites" is getting ready to wear its best attire and make its guests live a dream-like week.

ARCHERY & PHILATELY
There will be an additional reason that will make the next "H&F" World Field Archery Championship of Cortina d'Ampezzo even more attractive. In fact, for the first time and thanks to the Organizing Committee and the support of Fitarco and Coni, the Italian post managment will issue a stamp dedicated to Archery. The most important thing will certainly be the Italian partecipation in this World Championship and Cortina offers one of the most scenic venues of the world. In particular for the "Field Archery" which is considered the real essence of this sport. This speciality needs technique, concentration and training also because the distance of the targets is unknown to the athlets. The organization in Cortina of this Championship has been made possible thanks to the organizing efforts of GIS (management of sport facilities) and of the sport association "Arcieri del Piave-Dolomiti Rocce". This year the competition course will be set up in the lawns surrounding the swimming-pool, where the operative centre and the press room can also be found. Cortina will be proud to give ospitality to all of you: athletes, team leaders, officials and fans. All sports fans are well-aware that Cortina is the right resort to host and ru top level sports events. The long standing successful organization of alpine ski world cup event bear witnes to this.
From 9th to 16th July Cortina will host the 17th World Field Archery Championship. The organizing centre is set up in the swimming-pool venue where has been centred all the services necessary to the athlets. The real exacting competition course will be set up in the lawns surrounding the swimming-pool under the Faloria mountain and all the partecipants should try not to be distracted with the marvellous mountains they will see. Moreover, a great number of volunteers will be engaged in order to warrant the best kind of organization. A confermation comes to the TV coverage that RAI (Italian TV) will guarantee during the days of the finals which will be broadcast by Stream's sport channel.
