The popular marches, as they were once called, are above all a wonderful opportunity to celebrate a discipline that has achieved a large fan-base in recent decades, with increasing numbers of participants. The great interest in the cross-country race however, does not only arise from its competitive aspect but also from the many side-events organized around it. The 33rd edition of the Dobbiaco-Cortina race, one of the most prestigious cross-country races on the international circuit, promises to be an innovative and engaging event for all, young or old.

During the Nordic ski race, held on the first weekend in February, there will be a Snowman-making competition, Sunday, February 7th, locals and visitors come together to unleash their artistic imagination on Corso Italia, taking advantage of the snow available below the Campanile of Cortina dAmpezzo.
Rules? Simple. Teams consisting of up to five adults and children can participate building their own snowman according to the following guidelines from the organizers: Each team must register (free of charge) at the meeting point, in order to receive their construction kit which, apart from a carrot and two pine cones, will include their participation number and a signboard to be placed in front of the snowman with the names of each participant and their chosen title of their work.
Every team is of course free to decorate their snowman as they wish.
The snowman competition will begin at 14.00 and end at around 15:30. The jury will award prizes to three snowmen winners.

Saturday's 30 km freestyle race will depart from Fiames, near Cortina, and finish at the new cross-country stadium in Dobbiaco, inaugurated on 6 January by the Tour de Ski.
Sunday the 42km classic technique race departs from Dobbiaco and finishes in Cortina.
