Experience the sunset at the Lagazuoi and Nuvolau mountain refuges
The view of the sunset from the terraces of the Nuvolau and Lagazuoi mountain refuges, is legendary. Seeing the famous enrosadira on the Contùrines, Fànis and the Tofàne mountains, surprises even the most seasoned mountaineer. According to ancient legend, once upon a time the Dolomites were covered in red roses and contained immense treasures. A tribe of gnomes lived among the roses, ruled by their king Laurino. The kingdom was not protected by walls or fences, but only by a thread of silk. One day the king was captured and imprisoned by enemies attracted to the beautiful glow of the roses. Thus the king decided to cast a spell turning the roses into rock, so that they could be seen neither by night nor by day. He forgot the twilight, however, which is why it is possible even today to admire the red tinges of the enchanted rose garden at sunrise and sunset.
