Cross-country Ski
The G.I.S. proposes the Cross-country Ski tracks in the area of Cortina d'Ampezzo: there are the easiest, completely flat tracks for those who practise this discipline for the first time: the "school area" - equipped with snowmaking systems, the snow cover is thus guaranteed throughout the whole winter season - or the former "airport" runaway.
The Cross-country ski Centre is located in the premises of the Sports Centre A. De Rigo at Fiames.
The new idea regarding the cross country skiing for the winter season 2004-05 is the DolomitiNordicSki.
A card which gives the right to use the innumerable possibility of cross country tracks not only in the Alta Pusteria Valley but also in the neighbouring valley of Cortina, Rasun-Anterselva, Misurina-Auronzo, Val Casies-Monguelfo-Tesido, Comelico-Sappada, Alta Badia and Alta Pusteria-Sillian in Austria. Starting with the 23rd December there wait a lot of kilometer of perfect prepared tracks. The price for the daily ticket is € 3,-, the ticket for one week € 10,- and the seasonal card of every valley is € 30,-. There exists also a ticket for the whole DolomitiNordicSki area is € 50,-

Short history
It was the evening of 13th March 1962, on a Sunday just like many others. The train that had been going for years from Cortina d'Ampezzo to the pearl of High Pustorthal and back, was majestically entering the railway shed of the Dolomite resort for the last time. For those magnificent coaches, drawn by a powerful steam-engine, the "retirement from service" time had come. This is an unpleasant why to put it , but it is just what happened. Continue..

How to get here
The Cross country ski center is located in Fiames, about 5 km from the town center. You can arrive there by walk, along the cycling track which once was the site of the railway Cortina Dobbiaco, path n.208. The small road is almost flat and paved untll the outskirts of the town, where it becomes a dirt road which flanks Mount Pomagagnon under Punta Fiames. Upon reaching a little house (the old railway station of Fiames) turn left, descend towards the main road. By local bus, take the line n.1. Timetables>>> By car, from the center of Cortina, take the SS51 national road, north direction (Dobbiaco). The Sport Center is on the right.
