A machine-gun in the gallery, protected by armoured loop-holes was an insurmountable obstacle for the enemy.

The only way to destroy the emplacement was by digging a mine gallery below and blowing it up. This Italian emplacement is at 2620 m of altitude, just below the officers' hut.

During the night the machine gun fired at regular intervals at the Austrian communication trenches used to supply the forward lines.
