| Machine-gun nest built after the explosion of the Italian mine on the Lagazuoi Pre-summit. Soon after its conquest, the Pre-summit was fortified to resist the counterattacks by the Kaiserjaeger, whose trenches lay a few dozen metres away. The machine-gunner sergeant is operating a Wickers machine-gun, issued to the Italian army, in an emplacement temporarily sheltered by sandbags and stone gabions.
Visitors cannot help comparing their mountain equipment to the soldiers' ones, clearly inadequate for the high altitude harsh climate. |
