The Setting

This Italian look-out was garrisoned only at night. By day it was too dangerous because of its location under the cross-fire from the Austrian trench, the Austrian FW4 emplacement, and the machines-guns on the Castelletto behind the soldier.

Barbed wires with tins and bottles hanging guaranteed against surprise attacks by scouting enemy patrols.

A spiral gallery connected the look-out to the Italian galleries below which ran through the whole mountain.
