Punta Nera Mountain Group: Faloria - Sorapis Difficulty: alpine route with some exposed sections Time required: 4 hours Short description: from Tondi di Faloria (2327 m) coast beneath the crest to Forcella Faloria along path no. 213 and then, instead of continuing to Passo Tre Croci, turn off onto path no. 215 for Alta Valle Orita, up to the saddle at Punta Nera (2738 m) and the western Sorapis glacier below. Descend the opposite flank to a steep ledge and subsequently the Tondi di Sorapis scree slopes. Path no. 242 leads off from here to Cengia del Banco and the ferrata "Francesco Berti", but this itinerary continues left to Rifugio Vandelli (1928m) and then along the old mule track (no. 215) and military road to Passo Tre Croci (1800 m). This route was first walked in 1876 by the Mountain Guide F. Lacedelli "da Melùres". Cengia del Banco Mountain Group: Sorapis Difficulty: demanding alpine route with some exposed sections. Experience and proper equipment necessary Time required: 5 hours Short description: from Tondi di Faloria walk up past the saddle beneath Punta Nera (path no. 215) to the turnoff for the ferrate. Keep right along path no. 242 and head towards the base of Fopa di Mattia to then cross a rocky gully before climbing up to Cengia del Banco. This ledge cuts through the southwest face of Fopa di Mattia, past exposed sections down to the southern Croda Marcora ledge. Reach the SE spur and descend a steep gully to path no. 241 and on to San Vito a Cortina, close to Dogana Vecchia. Alternatively, instead of taking path no. 241, continue along path no. 243 to the ferrata "Francesco Berti" and, at the col Forcella del Bivacco, continue on to the bivouac "Scipio e Giuliano Slataper". |

![]() Sorapis round-trip Sorapis is the majestic mountain that rises high above Monte Faloria. From Cortina it looks neat and compact, but the north face is in fact an enormous basin with some of the last remaining glaciers in the Dolomites. Rifugi Vandelli and the two bivouacs are used on this round-trip. |
