How to get there

Cibiana di Cadore is located at the foot of Mount Rite; whose top offers dramatic views over the surrounding Dolomite peaks.

Cibiana di Sotto stands out for its considerable architectural wealth, consisting in several houses, some of them dating back to the 16th, 17th, and 18th centuries. Cibiana is, above all, the village of the "Murals". Large mural paintings, by well famous artists, catch the eye from the front walls of the village houses, thus creating one of the most fascinating open-air museums in Italy. Every year it is visited by schoolchildren, tourists, organized tours, as well as important persons like writers, politicians, and artists.

Within the territory of Cibiana di Cadore, on the top of Mount Rite, was created the "Museum in the Clouds", the international museum of the mountains longed for by Reinhold Messner. It is the highest museum in Europe, at 2181 metres of altitude, risen from the remains of an old fortress of the 1st World War.
The Veneto Region has undertaken the reconversion of the fortress, while the famous mountain climber has made available all his huge collection of finds, photographs, studies, and works of art to tell the essence of the mountains.
