Getting there: from Cortina d'Ampezzo take the SS 48 towards Passo Falzarego. Turn off left after Cian Zopè, (closed to traffic at certain times of the day) and continue up to the refuge. Alternatively, from Cortina d'Ampezzo take the SS 638 towards Passo Giau. Park at Ponte di Rucurto and continue on foot along path no. 437; from Passo Giau take path no. 443; from Rifugio Scoiattoli take path no. 439 (15 min).
Just a stone’s throw from the Cinque Torri, the Refuge is the ideal base for the grand Cinque Torri. This beautiful viewpoint has been the testing ground for generations of climbers from Cortina.

RIFUGIO NUVOLAU (2574m)

Getting there: from Cortina d'Ampezzo take the SS 48 towards Passo Falzarego to Restaurant Bàin de Dones. Take the chairlift to Rifugio Scoiattoli (or follow path no. 440) and then continue along path no. 439 (Rif. Averau 30 mins – altitude gain 190m) to Rif. Nuvolau (1.15 hrs - 350m altitude gain).
From Passo Falzarego follow path no. 441-419 (1.40 hrs – 470 m altitude gain).
From Passo Giau (SS 638) follow path no. 452 to Rif. Averau and continue along path no. 439 to Rif. Nuvolau. From Rif Fedare (SS 638 to P.sso Giau) take the chairlift to Rif. Averau and then continue along path no. 439 to Rif. Nuvolau.
Rifugio Nuvolau is located on the top of a large rocky ramp and looks out onto Passo Falzarego, Passo Giau and the Cortina basin. The spectacular 360° view is one of the most beautiful in the Dolomites

Getting there: from Cortina d'Ampezzo take the SS 48 towards Passo Falzarego to Restaurant Bàin de Dones. Take the chairlift to Rifugio Scoiattoli (or follow path no. 440) and then continue along path no. 439 (Rif. Averau 30 mins – altitude gain 190m) to Rif. Nuvolau (1.15 hrs - 350m altitude gain).
From Passo Falzarego follow path no. 441-419 (1.15 hrs – 300 m altitude gain).
From Passo Giau (SS 638) follow path no. 452 to the refuge.
From Rif Fedare (SS 638 to P.sso Giau) take the chairlift.
The refuge lies nestled on the col between Averau and Nuvolau and is strategically placed for ascents of these two summits. It is easily reached by chairlift from both Passo Falzarego and Passo Giau and acts as an ideal base for skiers in winter.

Getting there: from Cortina d'Ampezzo take the SS 48 towards Passo Falzarego to Restaurant Bàin de Dones. Take the chairlift directly to Rifugio Scoiattoli (or follow path no. 440). From Pian de Menis - Col Galina (SS 48 P.sso Falzarego) take paths no. 419-441 (45 mins - 270m altitude gain - Alta Via n. 1). From Rif. Cinque Torri walk along path no. 439.
Rifugio Scoiattoli, located between the Cinque Torri and the Nuvolau-Averau, is an excellent starting point for walks and traverses in summer. It also acts as an ideal base for skiers in winter.
