  The Cristallo and the Pomagagnon outcrop dominate the south and southeast flank of the Cortina basin. The alpine walls of these mountains offer splendid walks and, for those in search of something slightly more demanding, beautiful vie ferrate and historical treks.

Val Padeon separates these two mountains and is ideal for long, simple walks or pleasant bike rides.

The sentiero Ivano Dibona

The famous sentiero Ivano Dibona is in fact a via ferrata that works its way along the main Cristallo crest from Forcella Grande to Col dei Stombi, where it meets up with the cart road Val Padeon.

The Great War
The ferrata was first constructed by the Italian Army during the First World War and then restored during the 1960’s. When at the start of the Great War the Austro-Hungarian and Italian Armies began to take up their positions in the valleys, on the mountain passes and the roads along the Front, no one could have imagined that the fiercest battles would have been for the summits of the mountains themselves…
