Ferrata Ivano Dibona
Mountain Group: Cristallo
Difficulty: medium, predominantly downhill, exposed at times but always well equipped wherever necessary.
Time required: 6 hours
Short description: from Rio Gere (1698m) take the chairlift to Son Forca (2235 m) and continue in gondolas to Rifugio Lorenzi (3000 m). The ferrate, originally built by the Italian Army during the First World War and then restored during the 1960s, starts from here. The itinerary varies continuously, crossing through a tunnel and over a suspension bridge to continue along crests, cols and smaller summits.
For those wanting to cut the ferrate short descend from Forcella Grande down Rif. Son Forca. The ferrate finishes in Val Padeon (path no. 203) close to Ospitale, from where a bus can be taken back to Cortina and Rio Gere.
This is without a doubt one of the most spectacular outings in the Dolomites, past numerous remnants of the First World War and with beautiful panoramas both to the south and to the Austria mountains not far north.
