Arrival
Capanna Alpina

This is a long and at times challenging hike, with short steel rope belays on the ascent to the summit area. This is not the typical venture for ‘iron-seeking’ via ferrata enthusiasts, but it does take place in an attractive and little-visited environment, especially after the Malga Gran Fanes.

Access is at the Capanna Alpina hotel at the end of the Armentarola, where you take path no. 11, which leads via Col de Locia to Col Tadega at 2157m.

Continue in the direction of Malga Gran Fanes and 5 minutes before the malga take path no. 17 to the right. Climb up to the turnoff to the right for Monte Castello, which you pass and take the path to the left towards Vallon Bianco (VB).

Above this, cross a large valley, go left again and climb up between the rocks along serpentines. After a few remains of First World War emplacements, you reach a fork in the path and continue straight on with signs for Vallon Bianco. One climbs along serpentines that are exposed in places, at the fork one keeps to the left (to the right one goes up to the Furcia Rossa peak) and, further up, thanks to a bridge one crosses a deep crack in the rock.

Proceeding in zigzags and along ledges, some secured with steel cables, the path leads to the summit where you will find numerous remains from the Great War.

The descent is along the same route as the ascent.
