The only via ferrata on limestone rock, this new itinerary (yet to be officially named) starts from Bus di Tofana in Ra Valles and ends at the summit of the Tofana di Mezzo mountain. It is classified as medium-to-difficult. Not threatened by avalanches, it has been conceived to be safe for use both in summer and winter. It was made by an Ampezzo Alpine Guide, Andrea Piccoliori, and uses over 500m of rope, numerous stakes and grips, and 2 rung ladders. You can reach Bus di Tofana from Punta Anna, either by passing through Punta Aglio or by taking the Freccia nel Cielo cableway. It is close to the Giussani, Pomedes and Ra Valles refuges. It faces out towards the south-east, making it breathtakingly panoramic. The vertical climb from Bus di Tofana to the Peak is 350 m. The Variante Tofana di Mezzo has been open since October 2014, and adds to the existing three Via Ferratas usable both in winter and summer (Col dei Bos, Sci Club 18 and Cristallino d'Ampezzo using the suspended bridge from the Dibona Ferrata).
