In this Valley were born some famous people as the sculptor Giovanni Marchiori (1696-1778), the painter Gianmaria Pellegrini (1793-1843), the theologian and philanthropist Bartolomeo Zender (1736-1825), the poet Don Piero Follador (1827-1871), the historian Fr. Francesco Pellegrini (1826-1903), the Garibaldian Giuseppe Dozzo, the Jesuit Maria Felice Cappello (1879-1962) and the sculptor, painter and partisan Augusto Murer (1922-1985). Canale d'Agordo is also famous for being the home of Pope John Paul I.
