Mountain Bike - Rifugio Aquileia (Alleghe)

Difficultydifficult Length39,80 km

Start from Alleghe and take the cable car lift to Piani di Pezzè, then the new 8 seater cable car that goes to the scenic village of Col dei Baldi (1915 m). Get off the  lift and face South and take the  downhill to the right for about 550 m,  to the junction for Col Fioret we head straight down for the dairy Malga Boi Vescovà  taking precautions on a steep patch that is short but has a slippery, gravelly surface. After passing the dairy we ride on asphalt for about 450 m that brings us to the junction for Casera Fontanafredda, we take the left and pass the dairy, pedalling on a short, easy climb to  F.lla Pecol, come off the back of this and downhill on a challenging and technical tract for about 2 km and an altitude change of -15% to the point in Vizza Mareson, from here the descent becomes a slight slope to the village “Le Stroppe”, then continue slightly uphill towards the Baita Flora Alpina chalet and continue on asphalt to the rifugio Aquileia chalet (1579 m), where under the shadow of the monte Pelmo we reach the halfway point and return pedalling along a dirt road towards Ru Cordon.  From the 1497 m at this point we are going to take on a tough climb towards  Mondeval, the last part of the climb we will pedal on asphalt and then turn left for a pleasant return to the valley. We pass the dairy malga Pian de Vacia and continue downhill on asphalt towards the houses in Toffol. We are at 1471 m in this typical little hamlet of the Val Fiorentina and at the height of the first houses we take the right and go back up under the peaks of  M.te Cernera on a gruelling dirt road that takes us to the point of Zardin where we arrive after having pedalled from Ru Cordon to here for 9.61 km with a positive altitude change of  492 m and a negative -550 metres. We continue along our route heading North until we come to the road that goes to Passo Giau at Rù Ronc de Ciaval; when we get to the turn on the asphalt on provincial road SP638  we take the left to go down a few metres and then back up the secondary asphalt road that goes to Posalz, arriving here after 2.48 km, a small part of which are downhill but mostly on a good uphill, first on a dirt road then on asphalt. Once past this place we head straight up to the next point at Livinai for 1.28 km and  179 m altitude change equal to an average incline of about 14%, first for a few hundred metres on asphalt and then on dirt road. This section is all a dirt road that brings us to  "Ru", a pleasant ride down for about  2.2 km with an average incline of 6%.  We are pedalling in the historical area of the mines at Fursil and somehow we are following the historic road - ”Strada della Vena” which for centuries used to be a commerce route. The next segment is about 1.73 km it is a nice ride at first on dirt road and then after Sopradaz it is on asphalt, the altitude change is equal amounts of up and down until we arrive in Canazei  the territory of Colle di Santa Lucia less than 1 km  away downhill on dirt road for a negative  -135 m. We cross the main road and stay below Villagrande  pedaling downhill for the point at “ Col de Foa” and touching down in Rovei in a little less than 2 km at 15%  between a hint of asphalt and the rest on a path and white road to arrive at the point where we will cross the regional road SR 203. After crossing we take a little dirt lane that we can make out on the right side of the road and follow that for about 1 km with a  14% incline until arriving at the houses in Caprile. We start pedalling again and pass the village, leaving it behind us we head towards Saviner di Laste a few hundred metres away to cross the bridge over the Cordevole in the village of Saviner  where we leave the asphalt and head left towards Santa Maria delle Grazie pedalling pleasantly on a dirt bike path that follows the torrent  for 2.69 km, we will only encounter a small but sharp climb that is only a few dozen metres long that will take us up slightly in altitude to then descend to the group of houses and the namesake Churchl. It is one more kilometre always following the torrent to arrive at the bridge Ponte sul Cordevole that we re-cross to go to the village of  Vallazza on the outskirts of Alleghe and there are only a few hundred more metres to ride to get back to the lakeside path.
