Marmolada's cable cars

TOUCH THE SKY FROM THE TOP OF THE QUEEN OF DOLOMTES
Many steps were needed to achieve the current lift, that in only 12 minutes from Malga Ciapela, along the bellunese side of the Queen of the Dolomites, it allow to reach comfortably the top of the mountain, where people can admire its glacier, the spectacular 360 degree view and the hardy south wall.
Everything begun between 1963 and 1965 with the project of a cable cars that carry up 400 people hourly. In the 1969 it started the works till Punta Serauta (today it is the second station). With the poor facilities of that period and the hardy rocky environment, the lift buied a big value and magnificence, almost unique for its type.
The third part, till Punta Rocca, was achieve in the following year, in the 1970. After that, nearby, there were built other lifts around in order to give more develope at the skiing tourism.

In the 1979 there was an important historic event: Pope Givanni Paolo II, during an ice day of 26 th of August, he went up till Punta Rocca, to inaugurate and bless the Madonna "Regina delle Dolomiti" statue. It was located in a particular cave, made by the Alpines of Brigata Cadore. After that, in the 1982, the Marmolada's cable cars where connected to the famouse Sella Ronda tour and the Dolomiti Superski.

Between 2004 and 2005 the three parts of the lift, was powerd to permetted at 1.000 people to reach the top of the mountain hourly.
