Caprile

An itinerary which takes the name from the poet who stayed in Caprile during the summertime in 1886 for a period of rest in mountain. Here Carducci had the possibility to walk along the most beautiful paths which go around the village. This is a circular tour which can be started both from Caprile or from "Ai Tuffi” ( Ai Tof), a place on the way from Alleghe to Caprile, reachable by a public bus. From Caprile take the road to Selva di Cadore and following the signposts you enter the wood. If you start from "Ai Tuffi” the short way which takes to Caprile is easy and can be just a warm up before the climbing. Go past the isolated house and through steep curves you’ll reach the panoramic place of “ Bus del Diaol” ( Devil’s Hole), where you must stop for a glimpse down to Caprile. From here on, the climb is easier along a pasture where you can take breath and enjoy the beauty of the wood. In short you’ll be at " Lagusello" immersed in the green meadows, in the centre of the hamlet there’s also a fountain. On an asfalted road follow the red and white signposts and reach "Pian". From here you'll have an amazing view on the lake of Alleghe and the overwelming North-Western wall of the Civetta Mountain. Before going down toward "Pian" on your left a steep climb goes up to the village of “Pragrant”, where you can see the majestic red fir which is claimed to be ca 400 years old. People say that Carducci stopped for a rest just in the shadow of this tree before going up to "Cima Fertazza". As you are back to “Pian” you’ll notice the well-kept ancient architecture, witness of a past welfare. Here there is another fountain for a sip of fresh water before starting the descent towards “Tos”. As you reach a dirt road cross it and you'll be again on a path, go down leaving "Tos" on your left, till you reach the starting point at "Ai Tuffi" ( Ai Tof). At the end of the descent here there's a cave, famous in the past for the extraction of alabaster, and now it's being recovered by Gruppo Speleologico Proteo of Vicenza.
