An ancient ancestor that lived thousands of years ago

In 1987 in the plateau of Mondeval de Sora located above the village of Selva di Cadore at an altitude 2150 m, it was discovered a Mesolithic burial . The initial reporting by Vittorino Cazzetta allowed a team of researchers to find the skeleton of a Mesolithic hunter lived 7500 years ago.

The discovery was world-wide, and for the fact that the skeleton and the grave goods were in a state of excellent preservation but also because up to that time it was not aware that the Mesolithic hunters frequent the high mountains . The heretic boulder where the burial was found allegedly served as a shed and shelter for the hunting seasons .

The Skeleton of Mondeval Man and the whole kit, together with other information on the life of this our ancient ancestor are on display at the Museum Vittorino Cazzetta in Selva di Cadore.
