TREKKING ROUTES | PASSO STAULANZA - RIFUGIO VENEZIA | SELVA DI CADORE | DOLOMITES UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site
From the car park on Staulanza Pass (6 kilometres far from Pescul), the path n. 472 of the Alta Via n. 1 goes through open meadows first and the woods later, with beautiful views on the Civetta Mountain. The path goes past the Pelmetto Mount where you can’t miss a stop to admire the famous traces of the dinosaurs dating back to more than 220 milion of years ago. Go past the Col de le Crepe, where the path from Palafavera in Val di Zoldo comes up. Go on along wide open sunny meadows. When you are on the top of the Rutorto Pass you will see the Rifugio Venezia just at the foot of Pelmo Mountain. This rifugio is the starting point for the climbing to the top. From the open grassy space around the rifugio you will have a beautiful view on the far Antelao Mountain.
Alternative route: after a couple of kilometres from the car park on the path n. 472, turn left and in 30 minutes ca on a steep slope you will be on the place where you can easily admire the traces of the dinosaurs. A board on the rock gives you some information about the finding and the site.
You will find more info about this discovery at the Museo V. Cazzetta in Selva di Cadore.
