HIKES | REFUGE AQUILEIA - REFUGE CITTÀ DI FIUME | SELVA DI CADORE | DOLOMITES World Natural Heritage Site
This is an easy pleasant walking, ideal for families with children. Park the car in the wide meadow of the Aquileia (located almost 2 km far from Pescul towards Staulanza Pass – there’s a sign with the name "Aquileia"). Take the dirt road which from the back of Rifugio Aquilieia leads to a short steep path in the wood, at the top of which you will find the Malga Fiorentina dairyfarm. Here the view on the Dolomites is wonderful (from the Marmolada, to The Pelmo, the Becco del Mezzodì to the Sella). Take the dirt road which in few minutes leads to the final destination: Rifugio Città di Fiume.
Alternative route: leave the car on the wide area just on the foot of the Pelmo scree, on the third tight bend of the SR 251, about 4 km far from Pescul towards Staulanza Pass. An easy large dirt road starts here pointing towards the North. In the middle of the road you will meet the path leading to Rifugio Aquileia, just below the Fiorentina dairyfarm. The road goes on toward the North wall of the Pelmo Mount and in few minutes brings to Rifugio Città di Fiume. If you want you can carry on the walk. In fact from the rifugio if you follow the path n. 480 on the right towards East in 30 minutes you will reach, first, the Forada Col where you will have a breathtaking view on the Dolomiti Ampezzane and Cadorine and then, if you go down for 500 m ca along the path n. 468, you will reach a little nice altar dedicated to Saint Antonio. While on the left of the rifugio, towards North- West, the easy and pleasant path n. 467 of the Alta Via n. 1, leads, in 1 hour and half ca, to the Prendera dairyfarm, where the view on the overwhelming walls of Rocchette is amazing: together with Becco del Mezzodì, they remind us to a huge cliff just coming up from the ancient sea; just a bit further the imposing Antelao Mount.
