Cadore Dolomiti, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, just a couple of hours by car from Venice, offers visitors everything they could possibly want for both winter and summer holidays. The area is made up of a number of municipalities stretching from Alto to Centro Cadore: San Vito, Borca, Vodo, Valle, Cibiana, Pieve, Calalzo and Domegge di Cadore, all with their own individual character and attractions, just waiting for you to discover them.
Cadore in the Dolomites is a resort that offers a wide range of holidays to suit every taste. From such majestic peaks as Monte Rite, Monte Antelao and Monte Pelmo there are some stunning, almost unearthly views. The San Vito Ski Area, with pistes for all abilities, from beginners to expert skiers, is a natural paradise in which fans of this quintessential winter sport can spend thrilling days on the sun-kissed slopes. Then there is the Parco NeveSole, the playground in which kids can have their very own fun, with loads of games to choose from, snow-tubing, the sled run and also the opportunity to learn the basics of skiing at the ski-school complete with moving walkway. The lake Lago Centro Cadore is the ideal place for water-sports, for a spot of fishing or just a gentle stroll. Mountain bike fans can tackle the trail known as La Lunga Via delle Dolomiti which winds unbroken all the way from San Vito to Austria, or in the opposite direction, it takes you down to Calalzo and then on to Belluno. For more adventurous holiday-makers, there are plenty more demanding, at times hair-raising trails snaking through the woodlands.
After a hard day’s work-out on the slopes or if you just feel like chilling out, head for the Centro Benessere Corte SPA in Borca, where you can relax in the sauna or swimming pool, pamper yourself with a soothing massage or choose from other invigorating treatments.
For those with a more cultural frame of mind, Cadore boasts a number of fascinating museums. The house that was once home to the painter Titian can be found in Pieve, as can the archaeological museum MARC (Museo Archeologico Cadorino) and the Eyewear Museum (Museo dell’Occhiale). At the summit of Monte Rite, in Cibiana di Cadore, there is the Messner Mountain Museum Dolomites, known as the Museum in the Clouds in which culture and nature blend into one miraculous whole.
The number of attractions is almost endless and they are all here waiting for you to discover on a holiday to suit the whole family.
