WALKS | SERRAI DI SOTTOGUDA | ROCCA PIETORE MARMOLADA | DOLOMITES UNESCO World Heritage Site
A simple hike suitable for the whole family along the impressive Serrai di Sottoguda, a striking gorge with very high rock walls: an amazing natural wonder. A fascinating canyon carved out by the waters of the Pettorina stream, that stretches for about 2.5 km from Sottoguda to Malga Ciapela, at the foot of Marmolada, the Queen of the Dolomites; a walk in this place is an evocative experience for adults such as for children.
Serrai di Sottoguda are open from the 14th of June to 14 th of September 2025 every day from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Reservation is not required, but an entrance fee must be paid at the start of the trail:
A maximum of 200 people are allowed inside at the same time: if this limit is reached, visitors will simply have to wait for some people to leave before they can enter.
Everybody must enter wearing an helmet, which is provided at the entrance. Access to pushchairs is permitted. Dogs are only allowed on a leash.
Discounts are available for groups of at least 20 people: €4 for adults and €1 for children.
Visits for groups of more than 20 people can be planned by sending an email to [email protected] and receiving confirmation from the managers.
Access for the entire group will only be guaranteed at opening time (at 9 a.m.) and the group must arrive at the entrance at least 10 minutes in advance. At the moment, no reservation for groups is possible at other times. If groups arrive during the day (not at opening time), the members may have to enter separately due to the 200-people limit inside the Serrai.
It is still only partially open: entry and exit are only permitted from the side of Sottoguda (because the approximately 400 m towards Malga Ciapela are still closed).
Bicycles are not allowed in the Serrai.
The little train inside the Serrai is not working anymore.
During the day, the village of Sottoguda is a restricted traffic area. You can park in the nearby villages Le Palue or Pian and then take a walk of 10 minutes to reach Sottoguda and the entrance of the Serrai.
At the moment, there is still no official information about the low season and winter opening of the Serrai and the possibility of ice climbing.
