Explore some of the most iconic locations of the Dolomites: uplands, hidden valleys, enchanted forests and flower-strewn pastures, with panoramic viewpoints looking onto the magnificent Dolomitic peaks and the Ampezzo valley. In addition, along the trails there are many mountain lodges and alpine farms and agriturismi offering a warm welcome and traditional aromas.
Many of these routes are inside the Natural Park of the Ampezzo Dolomites, an 11,200-hectare area that enables you to admire a wide range of landscapes of great naturalistic interest and habitats with a high degree of biodiversity, amongst the richest and least contaminated of the Dolomites.
In addition, Cortina hosts several international racing competitions, making the Queen of the Dolomites a particularly popular destination for running lovers, who will have the opportunity to try the tracks of the races first hand. In June, Cortina hosts the historic Cortina-Dobbiaco Run, along the route of the former railway that connects Cortina to Dobbiaco-Toblach, and the Lavaredo Ultra Trail, a spectacular 120 km competition, starting and ending in Cortina, with a 5,800 m elevation gain. During the event, there are three other races of various lengths: the 20km Cortina Skyrace, the 48km Cortina Trail and the 80km UltraDolomites.
In September, there is the Delicious Festival Dolomiti, a sporting, cultural and culinary event that aims to enhance the historical, natural, alpine and enogastronomic heritage. It offers trail running enthusiasts two races of different lengths and elevation gain: the Delicious Trail Dolomiti, a 44.2 km race and the Short Delicious Trail Dolomiti, a 23 km race particularly suitable for beginners.
