How to reach the starting point

From Cortina, take the road towards Misurina-Tre Croci Pass. Once you have gone beyond the lake, continue on the main road until, close to a hairpin bend, you will notice a little open space where you can leave your car. From there, take the path across the street.

A moderately challenging ski tour that ascends the beautiful Val Popena, in sight of the spectacular massifs of Mount Cristallo and Piz Popena.

Leave the car in the small car park on the hairpin bend alongside the road that from Misurina goes down towards Carbonin, just before a small bridge that crosses the Rio Popena.

Follow the path 222 crossing a little bridge on Rio Popena. During the climb, the wood thins out and starts to reveal a majestic view on Cristallino di Misurina on the right and on Mount Popena on the left. From here, it is recommended to take a short detour to Forcella Popena (pay attention to the snow conditions), where you will find the ruins of an old hut built in 1935 but then destroyed in a great fire in 1938. The view is amazing and ranges from the majestic Mount Sorapis to the Misurina Lake.

Back to your track, continue uphill until you reach the saddle. From there, you can continue, still with a good inclination, until you reach the peak (2.430 m).

The first part of the descent, once reached again the saddle, having a greater inclination and being the valley very wide, will satisfy even the most pretentious skiers. Following the same route of the ascent, you will ski down the valley and then again in the woods. The last part of the track runs along Rio Popena.
